As a child I always thought of mulled wine as such an old lady drink.  I’m not sure whatever put that association in my mind but when I thought of mulled wine I think of a elderly woman simmer her wine over the stove waiting for her family to arrive for the holidays.

Mulled Wine

I never knew how amazing and festive mulled wine really is.   Whenever I have this mulled wine simmering on the stove our home fills with a wonderful fall aroma and makes it feel so cozy.  These days I no longer associate mulled mine as a grandma drink but rather of fall and home.

I love the warm spices and bright citrus in this drink.  The robust red wine makes for a heavy and beautifully colored drink.  I always add apple cider because no fall drink is complete without it, in my opinion.
