Dirty Rice Krispie Treats

Growing up Rice Krispie treats were truly a treat! My grandmother made us chocolate chip cookies once or twice a week and we loved them.  But coming home to a gooey pan of rice krispie treats put a smile on my face like nothing else.  I absolutely loved them.  Then over the years Kellogs came out with the individual treats pre-packaged.  My friends would always bring them to school in their swanky Saved By The Bell lunch boxes.  I would never be envious because I always thought the prepackaged ones were over rated.  My grandma’s homemade one were simple and delicous, no weird after taste.
Recently, I’ve been reminiscing those simple days.  I’ve been longing for ‘kid’ food and ‘kid’ times.   Much like pre-packaged rice krispie treats, being all grown up is over rated. Thinking of making mud pies and stone soup in my grandparents backyard sparked an idea to combine two of my favorite childhood treats; oreos’ and rice krispie treats.
These Dirty Rice Krispie Treats took me straight back to the days of running home from school to watch Saved by the Bell and California Dreams with a big plate of rice krispie treats or cookies!  When our after school specials were over we would dart outside spend the afternoon playing in the yard and riding or bikes.  Blissful.
I hope you and your kids (or grandkids) enjoy these special Rice Krispie Treats.  Let yourself enjoy the simple pleasures in life, no matter what age you are.
