Cran-Blueberry Smoothie

You could say we are a bit snowed in at the moment!  ;)   The past two weeks we have seen more snow than we have in…..well ever…I have never seen this much snow in VA.  I feel like I’m back home nestled in the Rocky Mountains again!  It’s been crazy! I must say this has not been crazy fun! Just plain *crazy!  Ava is not a big fan of snow either! We took her sledding for the first time this past weekend.  She went down three times and declared she wanted to come, our car got stuck in the snow onthe way out and I came home with a massive welt/bruise on my behind!!! We are not snow people here in VA!!

Ava trying to enjoy the snow!  It’s all so foreign to her!

But thankfully the postal service is still working.  The nice folks from chia seeds direct sent some chia seeds! That definitely lifted my spirits.  I had been so eager to try them.  Chia seeds are a great source of antioxidants!  I tried them in this smoothie and I love how they really thickened it.  They produce a gel, which is so cool.  Chia seeds to do not have to be ground like flax seeds to obtain the nutrients (i didn’t know that you HAD to ground flax seeds..good to know).

So bring on the Omega-3’s and enjoy every minute of it with this refreshing winter smoothie!

Cran-Blueberry Chia Smoothie

1 Tbl Chia seeds

3 drops NuStevia Vanilla

1/2 cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)

1/4 cup fresh cranberries

1/2 cup Almond milk (vanilla)

1/4 cup orange juice

Ice

Blend until smooth.  *sadly my blender is lacking in many areas…so i had a few chunks! The flavors came together nicely though.  I love that the cranberries added some tartness!  For the sweetener in this you can choose to use honey, agave…whatever you have on hand.
